Position Description


The Scrum Master works in a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-driven organizational framework and uses Agile methodology expertise to manage projects to completion. The Scrum Master coordinates and manages cross-functional team activities to ensure the achievement of business goals. This role is responsible for efficiently using Agile principles and processes to guide team focus, provide mentorship, remove obstacles and make well-informed decisions. The Scrum Master will:


  • Participate in the daily Scrum meeting; facilitate Sprint planning, release planning, stakeholder demos, backlog sizing/refactoring, and Sprint retrospectives
  • Lead self-organizing teams and work to remove high-level Sprint goal obstacles and provide external interference protection to help achieve iteration objectives
  • Manage the development and implementation of various IT projects using Scrum methodology
  • Resolve project issues and track each resolution for future reference
  • Maintain a high performance level and review team metrics and Burn Down charts to stay up to date on project progress and goals; execute strategies for improvement, as needed
  • Manage geographically dispersed teams; define and manage cross-team dependencies
  • Mentor and educate team members on Scrum best practices
  • Communicate with Master  Scrum Master to provide input for project status and team metrics
  • Assist with removing impediments to increase team productivity, selecting user stories, defining tasks, and developing team standards and tools
  • Facilitate communication, conflict resolution and decision-making; guide organization process
  • Support product owners by offering assistance with backlogs, resolving defects and fostering an environment of collaboration and communication
  • Provide Agile-based guidance for feature teams, the DHS project owner, DHS area project owners and other stakeholders in proper Scrum usage
  • Maintain a business focus for the product, assist in solution adjustment in response to business changes and align business expectations with DHS area product owners
  • Lead an environment of growth in Agile methodology and continuous improvement
  • Stay engaged with current Agile developments and maintain industry/technical knowledge base and facilitate/maintain industry relationships
  • Demonstrate commitment to providing customer-focused quality service
  • Perform other relevant duties based upon experience

Required Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of demonstrated experience in full life cycle project management or similar work
  • Two (2) or more years of working on software development projects using Agile/Scrum methodology
  • One (1) or more years of proven experience as a Scrum Master
  • One (1) or more years of experience with leading teams
  • Proven ability to understand, break down and communicate complex technical issues
  • Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Familiar with continuous integration practices and principles
  • Proficient with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate to all project members and stakeholders; must be a team player who works well with technical
    and non-technical resources

Preferred Experience

  • Healthcare industry background
  • Experience working in an SOA framework
